Dark nights, dark mornings

It’s been a while since I last blogged and I suppose it’s mostly down to lack of inspiration or opportunity in the last few weeks. The dark nights and dark mornings render any sort of decent distance running or cycling very difficult. I do have a head torch for running the country roads but it is still a poor substitute. My bike obviously has lights but the chances of ending up in A and E at the City Hospital are fairly high…oops correction – that A&E is closing tomorrow – it mustn’t have been busy enough!!!!

I have a 10k race in three weeks time and I expect it to be my last of 2011. For that reason I want a third PB in a row, but my current lacklustre training suggests otherwise. Nonetheless, in the few irregular weekly sessions I have been conscious of the need to keep ticking over. One thing I learnt by training for five marathons in 12 months is that 75% is about just doing it. You can’t hit great ‘times’ every run and you have to stay positive even when the body feels sluggish.

Here’s to hoping the week off work will enable me to get the miles up! October 2011has been my slackest month in terms of running frequency and overall distance since October 2010…but perhaps some of that is due to the fact that I have the bike back on the road …The dark wintry weather ain’t going away soon so I best just suck it up and get on with it!
